Visual storytelling

"Through the medium of film I can bring together anecdotes, fables, the spoken word, photographs and music to create a fresh and dynamic view on life as it was but informed and embellished by the present.

I am looking to save the everyday which has slipped away over the years whilst adding the question ‘what if’ allowing history the freedom to wander and experiment, to play with and bring alive the past for future generations."

Jeanette Sendler

I am originally from East Berlin. In my early formative years I have worked as a costume maker and dresser at the 'Komische Oper' in Berlin under the house costume designer Eleanore Kleiber. After emigrating to Scotland we would meet again at the Scottish Opera in Glasgow where she designed 'Peter Grimes ' by Benjamin Britten. I was engaged as her personal assistant for the production. Through work and social time together we got to know each other, a privilege I still treasure today. Her finesse in detail, colouring, breaking down the costumes, adding that extra detail influenced my later work as a costume designer greatly. Also the fact that we often had to work with what was available rather than desirable. The refined art of aging costumes and making props and stage sets in this particular "Kleiber' way  definitely impacted on me.

On one of our social occasions , I showed Eleanor my work and her response was 'YOU SHOULD BE MAKING FILMS!'.

Nearly 30 years later I find myself in Film school. All my years as a costume designer, milliner are now coming together in my mini period dramas based on the world around me today.

Eleanore died soon after our brief encounter. She had breast cancer which she kept secret from all of us. One saturday the Komische Oper staged the preview of 'La Boheme' and on monday she had gone. She never would have let a production down.....
